Tricks to Being A Teacher’s Favorite — Or That of A Driver, Boss, or Anyone Else
“Good morning,” I said to my bus driver this morning.
“Morning!” she said. “You’re not wearing your glasses today.”
“I’m wearing contacts today,” I explain.
“Ah, nice!”
The rest of the students get on the bus silently, yawning and puffy-eyed and hating the world.
I have my bus driver’s number. She tells me when there’s a substitute driver, and I tell her when school is on a delay or canceled.
I bet I’m her favorite — simply because I think I’ve said more things to her than the rest of the kids on the bus combined.
There are easy ways to stand out. All you have to do is be bold. If you still want to be a “quiet favorite,” that’s possible, too.
As for being a teacher’s favorite — I typically snag one to two classes per year where I’m the teacher’s favorite student in that class. I’ve been doing it since middle school. It’s easy, really. The first week is the key to success:
- When you get into the classroom, get into a seat in the front row.
- Participate in the first few classes and make sure that you’re very engaged in what the teacher is saying and doing.
- If it’s an uncontrolled class, make sure that you’re always sitting quietly and help the teacher when the rest of the class is acting like lunatics.
