I Think I Just Fainted

I have this thing where, when I get up, I get faint and my vision disappears. It typically recedes after a few seconds. Lately, it’s been getting worse. There have been times where I’ve gotten up and swayed, balancing on my friends for support while everything faded for a moment of two, breathing heavily. There have been times where voices have echoed disjointedly, like everyone around me is a broken robot.

My uncle has visited from Israel for the past few days. He’s in America for work. He’s leaving tomorrow morning, and as I hugged him goodbye a few minutes ago, I felt the familiar pull of darkness. My vision disappeared. I said something along the lines of, “Oh, not again.”

I was on the floor. What had just happened? My tongue felt like it had just been numbed with a gel the dentist uses before they stick a needle into your gums before pulling out a tooth. It was half-numb, filled with pins and needles. Above me, I heard my uncle saying, “Looks like someone’s retired for the night.” I opened my eyes. One knee was crooked; the other was straight. My head felt heavy.

“I think I just fainted,” I said.

My uncle described to me how I’d slumped against him, then splayed my arms and legs out on the floor. I remembered none of it. Just getting faint, then waking up on the floor.

Weird.

P.S: I got up slowly, and I’ve been eating and drinking a lot all day.
