“How would you write a short story that is only a conversation between two people?” (Requested by Charles E Leggat)
“Mickey, you’re bleeding.”
“Dammit! Again?! Why do I have to be so bad at this game?”
“Mick, you’re not bad at it. Lots of people show their cards accidentally. Here, take some new ones.”
“Yeah, but — those three cards — no, those— I must have broken some kind of record by now…”
“Speaking of records, did you see the record Lee set in basketball? I was at the game; it was awesome. When he set the record, I immediately thought of you.”
“Pfft. Of course you did. And yeah, I was watching the game.”
“How? You weren’t there; I didn’t see you anywhere.”
“The live stream, remember? They just set it up.”
“Oh, right! So, why were you watching, anyway? Aren’t you not that into basketball?”
“I wasn’t watching for the basketball, Kayla. Lee was in a tank top. He even took his shirt off at one point. He’s so toned.”
“You watched a basketball game for an hour and a half just to stare at Lee?”
“Kayla! You know I’ve always — ”
“Ha! You’re blushing!”
“Of course I’m blushing! I’ve liked him for, like, six months!”
“Exactly! It’s time to let this go.”
